Each sculpture is an indexical enlargement of the engraved dash between the birth and death dates on the tombstones of political, cultural, or poetic figures. Beginning as one to three-inch casts in the field, each is ultimately rendered into a monumental granite floor sculpture three to six feet in length. These sculptures are created by invitation to an exhibition context and research driven, they have appeared at both Chicago Works: Jason Lazarus the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and Live Archive at the Contemporary Jewish Museum, San Francisco, California.
